The Full Story

John has always had a passion for problem-solving and bringing creative ideas to life. From his childhood days of playing with LEGO and Play-Doh to his academic achievements in robotics and automation, John has always been driven by curiosity and innovation. With two degrees in mechanical engineering and nearly 20 years of industry experience, he has gained extensive knowledge and expertise.

Although primarily based in Ontario Canada, John's professional background has taken him around the world, providing design, installation, and commissioning expertise for automated manufacturing in various industries, including solar energy, screen printing, process mills and roller compactors for pharmaceutical and food processing, and home building supply technologies. This diverse experience exposed him first-hand to fabrication and the crucial role profile cutting technologies play in manufacturing parts for larger assemblies.

Every piece of equipment John worked on had components that required profile cutting, with some machines having up to 80% of their parts manufactured through CNC plasma cutting, laser, and water jet technologies. It was through these experiences that John developed a passion for helping others bring their ideas to life, and a desire to create his own.

In 2020, John purchased his first CNC plasma cutting table and quickly began designing and making parts for personal projects and gifts for friends and family. The positive feedback he received highlighted the potential for a business, leading John to upgrade his equipment with a larger CNC plasma cutting table, a professional powder coating system, abrasive blasting cabinet, and new skills in fabrication such as welding. This was the beginning of WICDTech.
